How to start blogging

The first thing is to decide on what to blog on. What you are motivated to share with others. What you are passionate about. Something which brings idea to your mind daily; something you can write about daily. The more you write, the more you have traffic. Traffic simply means the rate at which people visit your blog. For example, people blog on politics, computers, automobiles, food recipes, business ideas, movies and lots more.

What is your main goal for blogging? is it to provide news updates?; teach?; motivate people?; tell people about what you do?

After you have come to a conclusion, you can decide on the name to give your blog, how to create and host it.

If you intend blogging to make money, it is advisable you use a paid hosting. However, you can create your blog with Google owned blogger.com. Blogger.com is very simple to use.

Let's talk about using blogger.com platform.

1. Visit www.blogger.com
2. If you have a gmail account, enter your username and password, then click on sign in. If you don't, click on the sign up button to register for a gmail account.
3. After logging in, you will be directed to a new page. Click on the new blog button.
4. Enter the name you want to give your blog in the title box e.g. (Free Website Design).
5. Enter the name you wish to be your domain name. e.g. freewebsitedesignforyou.blogspot.com (note that you can use your own domain name. You can read that out in another post)
6. Choose a template from Simple, Dynamic views...
7. Click on Create Blog!
8. You will be directed to a new page where you can create a new post; change your blog layout and templates; change your blog settings.
9. To write your first post, click on 'New Post' at the left side of the page. Enter the ttile of the post, then write the body of your post in the large box beneath. Click on save. Click on preview to check how it looks to your users. If you are ready to make it available online for your viewers, click on publish.
